Insted of keeping with the tone of the rest of the film, it simply takes the wrong way out and ultimately is not satiesfying. There are a few nice touches of blood and gore here and there, but probally not as much as some might be expecting. The film also lack originality. It has such a routine plot under all the virus talk, that we can pretty much see this one a mile away, but that never takes away from the enjoyment of the film. After my first viewing of it in theatres, I was let down by it. It may have been, because I had such high expectations, but I could just not see what all the fuss was about. Now, having the chance to view it again on dvd, I went with a more opened mind and found it to be a much more enjoyable experience. It is almost the perfect definition of a Popcorn movie. It grows on you, and I dont mean like a virus. The dvd from Fox is quite nice as well. The aspect ratio is 1:85 and fits the films darker tone quite nicely. The 1 Dolby track was good, if not great. Dialouge was clear and well separated and the bass kicked in, when needed. We get a few nice supplements here. Most notably are the 6 deleted scenes and 3 alternate endings. All come with opptional commentary and are an excellent addition to the set. Many of the deleted scenes fill out character moments and extend on already existing scenes. The 3 alternate endings are somewhat better. I do not want to spoil them here, but one of them completely changes the fate of a main character, while the other 2 change quite a bit as well. The commentray for these and the cut scenes, tell us specifically where they would have been and why they were cut. Next, we have a running commentary from the director and writer. For those of you wanting to hear about the edits and changes made to the script, should give this track a listen. We then have a brief making of featurette, but is purely promotional. There are a number of cool photos to see via still gallery and a few other trailers and tv spots for the film round out the disk. Overall, a very nice package and a fun little Saturday night flick for any hardcore horror fan. Recomended. And one bite, one scratch, one mere drop of blood in your eye or mouth, and you become one of them. If youre completely anal, you wont call them zombies in this film, because theyre referred to as infected and are not the living dead. As the movie relentlessly pulls us onwards, like a demented theme park ride through purgatory, we are treated to glimpses, to brief stories of what happened, and our imaginations are all too happy to fill in the horrible gaps. NCG teams up with a few survivors who creep through England as one of the smallest minority groups anywhere. As the stench of death and free shoewear fills the air, the quandry remains: what do you do after the worlds over and done with? Some say hide and survive to another day, some say escape to the continent to see if its the same there, and some push to find a sign of civilization, anywhere, on the island.
